TASTING NOTES - Wine Club Release May 12/23; Public Release May 19/23

Roussanne opens with a lovely aroma of rich macadamia nut and ripe pears, like an invitation into a barrel room on an Okanagan summer day. Upon the palate, the wine reveals tangy lemon custard and biscuit on the palate balanced by a dry and lean structure. The finish is textured, complex and each sip entices you to return for more. The flavours will evolve and reveal new layers of depth and nuance with cellaring 3-4 years.

Sip with a chunk or Gruyere, or Roasted Cauliflower Steak with creamy cashew sauce or for the Meat Seekers – grilled skirt steak with toasted pine nuts and chimichurri.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES:

Terravista Vineyards Roussanne is a very limited Focus Series wine from a single, sustainably farmed vineyard in Oliver. Gently whole-cluster pressed, the juice was settled, then run into a mix of 2nd fill and neutral French oak barrels and puncheons. The wine was barrel fermented, then aged sur lie for 5 months. Lees stirring occurred daily for 3 months, then was reduced to weekly for the remaining time in barrel.

"Here roussanne has been allowed to hang, develop its sugars and reach pretty much bang on phenolic maturity. Lots of sun and fruit accumulation here, golden hued, orchard fruit fleshed and candied rose style. Fulsome, still with a metallic streak and quite impressive length."

Jacky Blisson, MW
"A pleasantly fruit forward expression of Roussanne, brimming with ripe yellow pear, peach, and pineapple notes that echo on the nose and palate. Medium in body, fresh and juicy, with subtle grapefruit pith bitters that structure and elongate the finish."

"Ripe and lush with rosewater, fragrant peach, lime pith, and jasmine streaming along the ginger spiced palate. Acidity is bright, streaming this to a zesty lime finish. A really unusual take on the grape, and one that would well-suit fragrant Thai or Vietnamese dishes."

"The Focus Series is a limited label, and in this case of the roussanne, the fruit comes off celebrated Le Vieux Pin and LaStella winemaker Severine Pinte’s west-facing Oliver home vineyard. I can think of so many grapes we could pull out in favour of this variety, which is simply overdelivering at Terravista. After a gentle whole cluster press, the juice runs into older barrels and puncheons for fermentation and five months of ageing on its lees with regular stirring. This is so delicious. Perfectly ripe with delicate acidity, hints of rosewater, lots of lime and peaches, with just a thread of spice in the finish. Lively and alive, this wonderfully fresh version of roussanne will be a hit with Asian chefs and consumers who love Thai, Indian, and Vietnamese dishes."
