A distinctive and one-of-a-kind BC red wine that represents the refreshing styles that are grown and made on the Naramata Bench. This is what we have been waiting for!  This is the only planting of Mencía in all of Canada. 

TASTING NOTES:
This chillable deep ruby red Mencía has a juicy texture with bracing acidity. It opens with tart red fruit: cherry, red currant, and raspberry, layered with crushed gravel, dried herbs, and a subtle hint of pepper. Bright floral notes and rose petals round out the palate. Delicate in weight, dry, but serious in structure, this style is precisely site specific on the Naramata Bench with floral lift and fun times. 

WINEMAKER'S NOTES: 
The grapes from Naramata Outlook Vineyard were hand picked, destemmed, fermented 50% in oak vat, 50 % in stainless tank, with twice daily pump overs. Aged in neutral French oak for 9 months.

More background:
Typically grown in the Bierzo, Ribeira Sacra and Galicia areas of Spain, we wanted to try this fresh, expressive red variety on the Naramata Bench. In 2021 at Naramata Outlook, 4 acres of green plants were hand-planted. The site has compact, clay soils with great airflow over the clay bluff to Okanagan Lake. Farming has been a learning curve with a new and relatively unknown variety to the Pacific Northwest. We have now produced 3 wines from this site all to be released in 2026 - a rosé in the spring from an early 2025 pick, the 2023 red which is wine club only in Fall 2026 with only 45 cases  - available only in 12 club packs in a savoury and structured style, and now our 2025 Mencía made intentionally to highlight the more floral, herbal and red fruit(s) side of the variety.
